CHENNAI: The M.A. Chidambaram Charities Trust has donated Rs 50 lakh to the Madras School of Economics. School’s chairman C. Rangarajan accepted the donation from the Trust’s president and managing trustee A.C. Muthiah at a function marking the late Dr. M.A. Chidambaram Chettiar’s 89th birth anniversary on Friday.

Dr. Rangarajan, who is also chairman of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council, presented the Trust’s annual awards.

The 2007 Dr. Rajah Sir Annamalai Chettiar award was conferred on Tamil scholar and teacher K Sundaramurthy for his outstanding contribution to and promotion of Tamil language and literature.

The Dr. M.A. Chidambaram Chettiar Award for excellence in fine arts was conferred on well known Carnatic musician and artist S. Rajam.

The Dr. A.C. Muthiah award for achievement as a first generation entrepreneur was given to K. Subburaj, chairman of Cethar Vessels, one of the country’s leading boiler manufacturing firms.
